ByGeorge, Marni, and a Closet Tour

ByGeorge, Marni, and a Closet Tour

A Storied Closet

by Jen Pinkston

If you’re ever invited to Katie’s home, make sure to ask for a closet tour. Everything you need to know about Katie can be learned through a walk through her closet: the patches that point to her need for expression, the dresses that tell the stories of many fun nights, the prints and patterns that so clearly articulate her more-is-more point of view, and the boots… so many boots.

I asked her about this soft pink Marni dress, as it was something I had never seen her wear before, and she mentioned that she found it at ByGeorge one day when she wasn’t really shopping for anything in particular.

If you’ve ever visited Austin, chances are that ByGeorge was on your list of must-visit places. I bought my first pair of designer jeans there after a college break-up and, a couple of decades later, it’s still one of the first places I think of when I want to go shopping here in Austin.

The lifestyle boutique was created in 1979 by Matt and Katy Culmo, and sold to Maguire Moorman Lambert Hospitality in 2014. Headquartered here in Austin, it’s where a curation of the world’s best collections meets the uniquely Texan approach to getting dressed. Rooted in the belief that exceptional style can be both sophisticated and effortless, their stores are comprised of the distinctive perspectives of both emerging brands like Nak Armstrong and Vada, and established brands like Jacquemus and Marni.

ByGeorge’s Fashion Director, Laurel Pantin, is passionate about idiosyncratic style, and has mastered the art of helping others connect through style and story. What sets her and ByGeorge apart is that they don’t just follow trends, they dig deeper and are committed to authentic personal style.

I love that clothes can be a way of expressing different pieces of ourselves. Sometimes we are a printed and feathered two piece La DoubleJ set and other times we are a demure, structured Marni dress. Both things can co-exist.
