St. Barths

Eat, Stay, Play

by Elizabeth Kurzweg

St. Barthélemy, colloquially referred to as St. Barths, is a tiny French island— ⅛ the size of Washington D.C.— nestled in the Caribbean and boasting some of the clearest water, most pristine beaches, and upscale luxury accommodations in the region. Katie has been a few times with friends, so we recently got her to dish on her favorite places to eat, stay, and play in this dream destination.

EAT

The island’s culinary scene is influenced by its French heritage, so expect incredible wine lists, excellent pastries, and locally grown high-quality ingredients. For fine dining, you can enjoy French-Caribbean fusion at Le Tamarin, home to a wine cellar with over 200 vintage wines. For a more relaxed atmosphere, try Le Select for iconic burgers, or the laid-back La Guerite for fresh seafood by the beach. Bonito is one of the best ceviche-bars on the island; make sure to try their famous “crispy” tuna ceviche.

STAY

St. Barths offers a range of luxurious accommodations, from chic boutique hotels to private villas with breathtaking views. For a five-star experience, Eden Rock is an unparalleled glamorous beachfront resort. Le Barthélemy Hotel & Spa, located in a unique crescent bay, offers elegant rooms and a serene atmosphere perfect for relaxation. For ultimate privacy, the island is also home to numerous exclusive luxury villas, many with private pools and stunning ocean views.

PLAY

St. Barths is the perfect destination for a mix of relaxation and adventure. You can unwind on its pristine beaches, such as Gouverneur or Colombier, or explore the island’s crystal-clear waters while snorkeling, diving, or sailing. For a more active day, hike the scenic trails offering panoramic views, or shop in the upscale boutiques of Gustavia. The island also offers vibrant nightlife, with beach clubs like Nikki Beach and Le Ti St Barth. And lastly, don’t miss out on the island’s cultural events, such as the St. Barths Music Festival in January where more than forty musicians, opera singers, and conductors are invited to form a unique symphony orchestra.
